AMC's Perspective

The AMC affiliation program establishes a liaison between AMC and Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps units for joint combat airlift training. This is a nontraditional liaison based on unit level involvement between the airlift user and AMC support units. The basis of the affiliation program is the direct communication between AMC and affiliated units. The program has been extremely effective in developing faster reaction times to joint mission requirements, ensuring an immediate and effective team effort when short-notice airlift is required. All objectives of this program are directed toward one goal: fast, efficient reaction to worldwide contingencies with emphasis on user self-supportability (Ref AMCP 36-1, p. 1).

The real test of the AMC affiliation program lies in actual unit deployment. The time to establish a good working relationship and effective training program is not when the first mission aircraft arrives to move your unit. Airlift planning must be accomplished long before then. AMC has instituted a training program utilizing classroom instruction and practical loading exercises. The Airlift Planners Course is designed to train an individual with little or no knowledge of airlift planning and mobility procedures to a level at which they can recognize and solve problems early in the deployment process. Through this training, AMC and the affiliated units create a deployable combat force capable of responding immediately to any contingency or national emergency (Ref AMCP 36-1, p. 1).
